ASTIN, the non-life section of the International Actuarial Association, held its 29th conference in Helsinki at the beginning of June, supported by Profit Software.
The conference was
dedicated to Teivo Pentikäinen, a great promoter of modeling insurance.
He was one of the pioneers of solvency studies and wrote several books on the
subject. The ideas that he presented are visible in the Finnish Insurance Act of 1952 and are to a great extent similar to the ones in the the Solvency II directive currently under discussion.
Jukka Rantala (at left) and Chris Dayking (at right) were keynote speakers in the first Plenum "In Honour of Teivo Pentikäinen". Teivo Pentikäinen together with Chris Dayking and Martti Pesonen (in the middle) wrote a book called "Practical Risk Theory for Actuaries" that was for a long time the most valued book on risk theory.
In addition to solvency II, the current financial crisis and global warming were much discussed topics during the conference.
Profit understands the key role of the actuarial function in the insurance companies. It is also a supporting member of the Actuarial Society of Finland.
