Performance benchmarking tests verify the strong scalability of the Profit Software platform and application architecture in a business critical environment when running demanding calculations and transactions.
The performance benchmarking was done to demonstrate how large data volumes can be successfully processed by the Profit Life&Pension product platform. From a business point of view the focus was on the month-end policy calculation, known to be one of the heaviest processes for any insurance business. The most critical aspects of the testing were the application architecture and the scalability of the software.
The test was planned and configured for an environment similar to any large or medium sized life insurance company. To ensure that testing process was as neutral and as realistic as possible, all tests were performed with the assistance of Profit Software’s global partner companies – Oracle, Fujitsu-Siemens, IBM and Sun. Additionally, group pensions were tested with our Norwegian partner EDB.
In each test, Profit Life&Pension was run on separate hardware platforms against the Oracle 10g and IBM DB2 databases. These combinations are affordable and highly reliable environments for life insurance products.
Overall the test results were excellent, and the reports can now be analyzed with Profit Software's customers to evaluate how the testing environment compares to the their own technical environment and infrastructure.“Benchmarking is an essential decision-making factor for a potential customer – both when evaluating new solutions and when planning system consolidation," says Ari-Pekka Saario, CTO of Profit Software. "Insurers' systems are business-critical by nature and they last for decades, so anticipated growth has a significant role in purchasing decisions. It is always a challenge for both software and hardware when transaction volumes are constantly increasing."
"From Profit Software’s point of view this performance benchmarking is an important step forward, as it brings tremendous added value for the customer who needs to understand the capacity and volumes that can be safely processed, "said Saario. “These test results have also proved that we are on the right track in the development of our software and architecture."
